Coach Camm: Top 10 Things To Do For A Healthier 2021

10 Things For a Healthier 2021

Fit Tip of the Week

10 Things You Can Do To Be Healthier in 2021

Track your calories or keep a food log for 2 weeks

  • This will be eye-opening if you’ve never done it. And no it’s not infringing on your freedoms or super restrictive – 2 weeks won’t kill you but the crap you’re eating might.

Read a (physical) book a month

  • Wait…train your brain? That’s right try reading a book. Not on your phone. Not on a kindle or iPad. On an actual book that was printed on paper. Rack up some late fees at the public library it’ll be worth it.

    Develop a sleep routine

  • Treat sleep like you would your diet or your workout regimen. Have a plan. Don’t just slap it out there and wonder why you’re not sleeping well. Keep it simple at first – try just one thing like wearing blue blocking glasses an hour before bed or turning the lights down at 8pm. Then slowly add steps until you have a set routine.

  • If you have a small child just be thankful you ever get to bed.

Get better at something you suck at

  • This could be in the gym working on exercises you’re not good at, or training in a different way you’re not used to. Outside of the gym it could be picking up a hobby you’ve never tried.

  • The point is seeing yourself go from unskilled to skilled and enjoying the process. The end result is irrelevant but if you enjoy the process it will carry over into other areas.

Lift weights 3 times per week

  • I’ll just keep on saying it – strength training is the key to long term fitness success. Stronger bones, more muscle, less fat, higher metabolism – it all starts with strength training. It’s not the only piece of the puzzle but it’s the biggest piece.

    Train for an event

  • It could be for a 5K, a powerlifting competition, a wedding, Bench Pressing 225 lbs, or having jacked arms for when you get your Covid vaccine.

  • I’ll make it real simple – On “insert date” I would like to “insert goal or event” and I’m going to “Insert Plan of Action” to do so.

  • Put a plan together, track your progress, and get it done.

Give up booze for 1 month

  • Pros: No hangovers, better sleep, better skin, less anxiety, weight loss, improved hormone function, better lipid profile, lower blood pressure, more productivity, enhanced immune system,

  • Cons: No one wants to hang out with you

  • Conclusion: No one wants to hang out with me anyway, so I’ll give it a shot.

    Don’t sleep with your phone

  • Put it in the other room. Wake up to an alarm clock like your grandparents.

    Say Hi to strangers

  • Wearing masks all the time is weird there’s no getting around it. But wearing a mask doesn’t preclude you from being a human and I guarantee when you say “Hello” to someone when they’re not expecting it, it will be well received.

Care about your health - but not too much

  • This is the trickiest of all. Caring about your health the right amount is a little dance that we all need to master. We need to care enough to prioritize our health and make good decisions involving it, but not so much that it completely trumps other aspects of our lives.

  • Everything has an opportunity cost – even beneficial things – and finding the right balance is everything.

Brian Cammarata

Hello! I’m Brian! My goal is to not only help my clients lose fat, build muscle, and move better but to make training a part of their lives forever.  Fitness is a lifelong pursuit and I'm here to be your guide.

As a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and a Level 1 Titleist Performance Institute Golf Fitness Coach, I've worked with a wide range of clients in both Boston and Los Angeles, from weekend golfers to average desk jockeys to young athletes.  We focus on getting stronger, moving better, and building good habits in and out of the gym.  As the saying goes, "we are what we repeatedly do".

We will repeatedly challenge the body, assess the results, and take time to enjoy the ride.  We won't do fad diets, mindlessly run on the hamster wheel, or take ourselves too seriously.

Playing sports led me to fitness, and fitness has given me a true desire to learn about the human body and share that knowledge with others.

Let's do this together.
